NOTES FROM THE FIELD: SPLASH GUARDs

During a recent return visit to one of our client's houses, we ran into this. Splash guards incorrectly positioned under a downspout. 

This homeowner does a great job taking care of their property and gutters and had placed these splashguards to move rainwater away from the house foundation. 

Problem was, they had been moved at some point. ​We asked the homeowner about this, and determined they were likely moved during landscaping and lawnmowing - and never put back.

This highlights a good point: even with the right hardware in place, we have to inspect these things on a regular basis. Even a simple walk around the house to check for issues goes a long way. Especially in this case - prior to major rains or storms, properly placed splash guards can go a long way.
